Cultural And Diversity Awareness

Overview
Britain is no longer characterised by a monoculture. Do you engage with a range of communities from people with disability, women, religious groups, new migrants or ethnic minorities? In your work, are you required to relate to and deliver a service to different sections of your community? Do you understand the culture, norms and practices that characterise these diverse communities? To understand and improve services to these communities while improving your professionalism, this workshop will raise your awareness, give you the confidence and comfort to relate to a range of diverse people.

Content
This course is for professionals in both public and private sectors who regularly deal with diverse clients and their communities, who want improve interaction and avoid offence or ‘putting your foot in it’.

We will provide you with some useful background and practical tips to raise awareness and help you improve your services. Elements in this workshop include:
  • What is culture and what is diversity? Why are they important?
  • What are the examples of cultural norms and behaviors with religious and faith groups, ethnic minorities, people with disability, old and young people, women and people from the gay community?
  • The legislative framework.
  • Improving your service.
